The participants include Wade Watts who lives in Columbus found in the OASIS with his avatar Parzival and Arch who have another friend, Art3mins, making a team of four hunters. The three are participating in the game with the aim of sharing the history of the late James Halliday who is the founder of the Easter egg. Before Halliday died he had left a message to his avatar to announce the contest to find the egg in its hidden place. In this game there are three challenges, which of course are the three keys, that needs to be solved in order to reach to the Easter Egg. The first and the second challenges involve Morrow, the Halliday Partner and Kira his wife. In the two challenges a solution is gotten by winning a game by Anarok which involves Manhattan cityscape and Kira search.
The last challenge involves playing another game, Atari 2600, which was a favorite game of Halliday. The movie ends with a surprise where the four hunters stated above wins the game. IOI Company is dissolved while Wade and his team run the OASIS.
